hello sunshine

it's amazing what a great fitting dress and a new pair of shoes can do for the soul, right? since i started taking my anti-anxiety medication almost two years ago, i've felt the heat a lot more than most, right, and because of that i absolutely loathe the summer weather more than ever. and before that, i wasn't a fan at the best of times. in the summer i find that nothing fits, that everything makes me hotter, and worst of all, nothing "trendy" suits me. i'm not made for shorts or short skirts - i've always been bottom heavy, and i don't wear jeans as a rule. i'm a dresses-and-tights gal, and come summer, dresses without tights is blasphemy.

maxi dresses are sometimes worse, because they're so long and they keep the heat in where it doesn't want to be: between my thighs. that summer chafe, man, it's not the one. so i suppose that leaves midi dresses. and over the last few years i have really welcomed this style into my wardrobe with a sense of gusto; when i find something that suits and flatters, it's almost like finding the holy grail! and when it comes to adding beautifully designed and well fitting midi dresses to my collection, there's only one place i go: sugarhill brighton.

when i spotted the bright red marcia dress on their instagram page, i knew it was going to be the perfect dress for summer. the colour and print were so very "me", while the length was long enough to cover my trouble areas but also short enough to allow for suitable ventilation on those super warm days. and bonus points for the secret pockets that i didn't know existed until i slipped the gorgeous item on ready for brunch with jasmin a few weekends ago, because secret pockets will always push a dress from "good" to "great" without a second thought - am i right?

the minute the dress* and tote* arrived i knew exactly the shoes i wanted to wear with them to give the outfit the final touch of summer fun it deserved. and though it was a tough decision between the candy pink and the sunny yellow suedette mules that i picked up recently from primark, i knew instinctively that the yellow shoe was absolutely the right call. nothing quite says "summer" like a bright yellow shoe.. isn't that the truth.
